Flexible Access--From the 2000-2001 to 2012-2013 the LRES Library operated a fully flexible access program. Flexible access allows for increased access to library resources and facilities for all members of the Lynn Road Elementary learning community. During most of the instructional day, the library is open for circulation, whole class, small group and individual use. Flexible access allows increased opportunities for the integration of information and technology skills into content area instruction. We found flexible access to be the perfect conduit to facilitating 21st Century Learning, project-based learning and collaboration with teachers.
Fixed/Flexible Access—Between the years of 2013-2014 and 2019-2020, the LRES Library ran a combination program of various primary grades operating on a fixed schedule and upper grades on a flexible schedule. During the 2020-2021 school year to meet the needs of both our virtual and in person learners, the library offered both synchronous and asynchronous Learning opportunities. Additionally, our Pre-K-5th Grade in person learners were given the opportunity to check out books visiting the library on a fixed schedule following strict COVID-19 safety protocols.
Fixed Schedule--During the 2021-2022 school year, the LRES library began operating on a fully fixed schedule for all Pre-K-5th Grade. Classrooms visit the library once a week to offer students an opportunity to select materials to support independent reading and research. There is a strong emphasis on teaching students to navigate through a wide selection of print and digital texts. Students are provided with interdisciplinary inquiry-based learning opportunities incorporating the eWISE research model and digital citizenship lessons.
Open Circulation-- The Lynn Road Library has a strong tradition of providing our patrons with circulation access throughout the week. Open circulation allows students to check out books independently to support reading interests and informational text on an as needs basis. Open circulation allows for more effective reader's advisory sessions. Students are able to utilize our self-checkout system to empower them to process their own materials independently. Due to COVID-19 restrictions open circulation was placed on hold. Now that the restrictions have been lifted, we are in the process of resuming open circulation.
